Natural, Organic or All-Natural? What's in a name?

Welcome to Planet FriendlyIt's what's inside (and outside) a product that counts!
All the labeling of foods these days can make shopping confusing. What makes a product organic? What makes it natural? Is there a difference from natural to all-natural? What role do additives play? To help you navigate through a jungle of terms, Planet Friendly has provided this simple glossary of definitions. Use it to determine what products fit your lifestyle.

Natural Foods
When a food is labeled as "natural" it means that the food or products that make up the food have been minimally processed and actually remain as close as possible to its original and natural state. So if you purchase tomato sauce, you can feel comfortable that it uses real tomatoes crushed or pureed into the sauce. And because they are not tampered with by over processing or saturation by chemicals and preservatives, these products are considered "natural" and are often more nutritious than their refined counterparts found on supermarket shelves.

All-Natural Foods
Sold without artificial colors, flavors or other petro-chemical additives "all-natural foods" are often the choice of those who suffer from many food-related allergies. These petro-chemical additives actually cause your body and immune system to work overtime to process them and in some individuals, when ingested, can cause headaches, disorientation, dizziness, mood swings, mouth sores and hyperactivity.

Organic Foods
Produced by farmers who are careful to conserve soil and water, and enhance the environmental quality of the land around them for future generations, "organic foods" use no synthetic or artificial means in their growing process. Farmers also avoid exposure to toxic chemicals or pesticides that can end up in the ground, air, water or food supply. Many believe that organic foods have a better taste and are overall healthier for you since the produce is natural and fresh and levels of vitamin C, iron, magnesium and phosphorus tend to be higher in organic foods than processed counterparts.
